it's been a while since niko manner has made an appearance anywhere other than in his bar, and even then he stays an hour or two at best. rumors may be circulating but it's not like he gives a shit. why would he?[break][break]

but his priorities have started to tilt back. it's why he finally reaches out to jessie, inviting her over to his place.

Jessie was worried about Niko.

To say that was an understatement. She was worried sick. She had wondered if she had done something wrong, since she had begun to hear less and less from him. Not to mention he wasn’t around as much.

She had picked up more shifts. Her days felt more lonely. She felt sick.

Until he reached out to her, asking her to come over.

So, Jessie did, with a knock on the door.

niko's walking around the space of his home when he hears the knocks from the door. he puffs out his lips and makes an awkward sort of noise — funny enough to garner a laugh. his smile lingers even as he approaches the door.[break][break]

to say he's relieved to see her is an understatement. it shows in the way he looks at her; almost with a sense of longing. but he's sure her attention is elsewhere.[break][break]

on the baby by his chest, perhaps.

To hear his voice and see him when he opened the door eased a bit of Jessie’s tension. Perhaps she didn’t do anything wrong after all, if he was pleased to see her.

However, as she was approaching him, something caught her eye and almost repulsed her.

A baby. Why did Niko have a baby?

It’s not that she didn’t like babies. She loved them. But… why did he have one? Who’s was it?

”Niko… why do you have a baby?” Jessie asked warily, hanging by the door like an escape.

It was clear that he either lost his mind or he was derived from sleep and human contact. Maybe a bit of both. Jessie huffed, staying firmly in her spot until her patience got the best of her.

"Niko."

Walking up to him, she reached up and gave a few firm pats on his cheek, hopefully enough to snap him out of it and not startle the baby.

"Last time I saw you, you were just a bachelor. What the hell do you mean this is your baby?" she said desperately.

The words made her heart feel like it was going to burst into pieces.

it's not until she speaks again that he realizes she hadn't followed him in. he stops, turning in place to look back at her. his baby's head swivels as well.[break][break]

the slaps on his cheek definitely help.[break][break]

"oh! i guess i still am a bachelor. kinda. maybe?"[break][break]

they haven't had the talk yet which leaves him in a tricky spot. either way, he clears his throat, straightening his posture a little.[break][break]

"but someone left him at the bar. abandoned him, pretty much. so i took him in and he's my baby now."

As dangerous and scary as Niko Manner could be, he was a real idiot. Jessie puffed out her cheeks, her eyebrows knitting together angrily as she glared at him.

But, he finally got what she was practically spelling out for him. She, very obviously, relaxed, her glare dissipating and her shoulders dropping from their tensed position.

"So someone just dumped this baby at a bar?"

How cruel.

Jessie finally entered, closing the door and approaching slowly. She regarded the baby cautiously before offering a finger for him to hold onto.

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

Jessie watched the interaction between father and son. Adopted or not, that's what they were now. Even if the baby looked scarily similar to him.

She had her doubts, that maybe this actually was Niko's child, and the mother decided to abandon him. Perhaps from a fling, since he had been such a playboy. Was he still a playboy? The thoughts made her chew away at her cheek anxiously.

"I worried about you. I thought I had done something wrong... or made you upset. Or maybe..."

Maybe you were tired of being around me.

Jessie didn't say it, instead focusing back as the baby gazed at her finger.

Jessie finally cracked a smile, looking from the baby up to Niko's face. It was a small one, but it was a smile, nonetheless.

"Yeah? So you can give him to me and take a break?" she teased, resting her head against his bicep as she looked at the baby.

"Have you named him?"

Truly, she had so many questions. Like if he thought that the baby was his. If he had taken him to a pediatrician. What did his DITTO think of him? But, she settled on only a simple one, such as the name.

"If you want to rest, I can watch him. I'm good with kids."

"You're so fucking stubborn," she said, though she ended it with a quiet laugh.

Reaching her arms out to take the baby from him, she looked the baby over.

"If you really wanted to, you could call him Niko Jr. That's a thing. He'd be Niko II," she pointed out.

"Though, honestly, with my naming scheme, you probably wouldn't want me to name your baby."

It wasn't her baby. Jessie had never thought about naming babies. Because, well... it was almost next to impossible for her to have one. That dream seemed unattainable. So she never entertained the thought.
